Master Shaowen Yu grew up in Beijing, China where he began his training with the Beijing Wushu Team at a very young age. Studying styles such as: Monkey form, longfist, broadsword, spear, cudgel, straight sword, butterfly knives, 9 sectional whip, Tai Chi, and Ba Gua.

It was as a member of this organization, the Beijing Wushu Team, that Master Shaowen toured more than 50 countries, garnering universal praise and recognition for his styles and techniques as well as earning the distinction of World Champion many times over.

Master Shaowen Yu moved to the Pacific Northwest in the early '90s and opened his first school in Portland, Oregon. Since then he has opened a second location and has become the largest and best martial arts school in Oregon.
